Canada Day is one of the biggest celebrations in Canada. Every year, communities across the country come together with parades, live entertainment, family activities, and fireworks. Here in Edmonton, there are plenty of ways to celebrate—from downtown events to community league celebrations and surrounding communities.

We’ve rounded up some of the FREE and family-friendly events happening on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, to help you plan your Canada Day.

Major City-Wide Events

Sir Winston Churchill Square

Head downtown to Sir Winston Churchill Square for Edmonton’s official Canada Day celebration.

Visitors can enjoy public art installations and exhibits as part of the final day of The Works Art & Design Festival. Throughout the day, there will be live music and performances on The Works Street Stage, along with food trucks, workshops, family activities, Indigenous programming, and evening entertainment. The City Hall Fountain will also be open for everyone to enjoy.

The celebration continues throughout the day before the fireworks begin.

Alberta Legislature Grounds

The Alberta Legislature Grounds is another great place to celebrate Canada Day.

From 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM, families can enjoy:

Edmonton Canada Day Fireworks

Location: North Saskatchewan River

The City of Edmonton’s fireworks display begins at 11:00 PM from the central river valley near the Kinsmen area.

Mill Woods Canada Day Celebration

Mill Woods hosts one of Edmonton’s biggest Canada Day celebrations, attracting more than 40,000 visitors every year.

Enjoy multicultural performances, live music, dance shows, food vendors, community booths, kids’ activities, and more. The evening ends with a fireworks display at 11:00 PM.

Bonus: The On-Rides Carnival at Mill Woods Town Centre runs until July 5.

Gold Bar Community League – Strawberry Picnic Market

Celebrate Canada Day at this FREE family-friendly community market.

Shop from local vendors and young makers while the kids enjoy a slime station, craft tables, and face painting.

Location: Gold Bar Community League

Belvedere Community League – Canada Day Celebration

Celebrate Canada Day with your neighbours at this FREE family-friendly event.

Enjoy a BBQ, live performances by Rockzilla, a bouncy castle for the kids, and plenty of fun activities throughout the afternoon.

Don’t forget to bring a lawn chair.

Garneau Community League Block Party

Garneau Community League is hosting a fun neighbourhood block party featuring refreshments, food, lawn games, crafts, balloon art, sparkle tattoos, live music, and more.

Time: 4:00 PM – 10:00 PM

Location: 88 Avenue between 109 Street and 110 Street

Canada Day Celebration by Donation – Canadian Forces Base Edmonton

Hosted by the Edmonton Garrison Fitness Centre, this family-friendly celebration includes military vehicle displays, Valour Park activities, a petting zoo, farmers’ market, food trucks, inflatables, hay rides, and more.

Donations are welcome.

Art Gallery of Alberta

The Art Gallery of Alberta is open on Canada Day.

Edmonton Riverboat Canada Day Cruise

Celebrate Canada Day on the North Saskatchewan River with a dinner buffet, live DJ, and one of the best views of the fireworks.

Reservations are recommended as tickets may sell out.

University of Alberta Botanic Garden

If you’re looking for a quieter way to celebrate, visit the University of Alberta Botanic Garden.

Activities include a Guided Forest Therapy Walk with Wild Calm Therapy, opportunities for kids to meet baby cows, and live performances by the University of Alberta Summer Band.

Canada Day in Surrounding Communities

Fort Saskatchewan

Celebrate with a Canada Day Parade featuring decorated floats and local groups.

Families can enjoy a petting zoo, face painting, glitter tattoos, inflatables, a Show and Shine car show, live entertainment, food trucks, a farmers’ market, and fireworks at the Rotary Amphitheatre.

Leduc

Start the day with a pancake breakfast at the Grain Elevator at 8:30 AM.

The celebration continues with a car show on Main Street, live entertainment, food trucks, petting zoo, inflatables, arts and crafts, face painting, and more.

Fireworks begin at 11:00 PM and can be viewed from William F. Lede Park.

Spruce Grove

Spruce Grove has a full day of Canada Day fun.

Enjoy a pancake breakfast from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by free cake during the opening ceremony.

Activities include crafts, the Fit Set Mobile Ninja Obstacle Course, Mobile Escape City, Code Ninjas, inflatables, photo booths, and many more family activities.

St. Albert

Celebrate Canada Day with FREE family-friendly activities for all ages.

Enjoy live entertainment, inflatables, games, and community activities throughout the day.

The annual pancake breakfast at St. Albert Legion Branch 271 runs from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM.

Fireworks begin at 11:00 PM at Meadowview Ball Diamonds.
