Green Shack Programs Are Back for Summer, 2025

 

Summer playground play in Edmonton just got a whole lot more exciting! The beloved Green Shack programs are here again, bringing free, fun-filled activities to various parks across the city from Monday to Friday, all summer long.

When: Weekdays, July & August, 2025

What the Green Shacks Offer:

Kid-led fun! Program leaders are all set to host games and make sure every kid who wants to join in is having a blast. Here’s a taste of what’s in store:

  • Group games that get everyone moving
  • Sports for all skill levels
  • Creative crafts
  • *Back for another year* – Green Shack shows in partnership with Edmonton Arts Counsel

You’ll find Green Shacks at various playgrounds throughout the city, running Monday to Friday, from 10:30 am to 5:30 pm, usually either morning OR afternoon with an hour break between. To find out which parks are participating and their specific times, check out the City of Edmonton website here.

Good to Know:

  • All Green Shack leaders have undergone a security clearance process, are trained in first aid, and are certified specialists in fun!
  • They make sure everyone plays safely, but parents need to be around and available in case of an emergency.

Open now for the 2025 season! The perfect outdoor adventure for anyone who loves climbing – here’s what you need to know about Snow Valley’s Aerial Park in the heart of Edmonton, AB.
Where: Snow Valley – 13204-Rainbow Valley Road (Just off of Whitemud & 119 Ave)
June hours
  • Closed from Monday to Wednesday
  • Thursdays & Fridays: 5 pm to 9 pm
  • Saturdays & Sundays: 10 am to 9 pm
July & August hours
  • Daily from 10 am to 10 pm except Wednesdays
  • Wednesdays: 1 pm to 10 pm
Good to know:
  • Minimum height to participate: 100 cm
  • Ground level is designed for kids aged 3–6
  • Kids 100–125 cm tall can access the kids’ ground level and One chaperone is free
  • Kids 125–140 cm tall get full tower access but must have a chaperone (age 14+ and 140+ cm) with them (Ask about chaperone pricing)
  • Chaperone ratio: 1 chaperone per 3 participants (per level)
  • Those 140 cm+ tall do not need chaperones
  • Ground school is mandatory for all
Just like ski hills, the games are color-coded by difficulty: green, blue, and black. Ready for a challenge? Take on the black-level Ninja Warrior course! All visits are a maximum of 2 hours total, including Ground School.

The City of Edmonton has announced opening dates for its outdoor pools for the season – we have the full list of when & where to go for outdoor pool fun all Summer long.

Helpful info about Edmonton’s outdoor pools:
  • Once pools are open for the season, they will only be running when the weather is over 18 degrees, and are closed on rainy days
  • It is not mandatory, but it is suggested to reserve your swim time for City of Edmonton pools ahead of time, as far as 7 days in advance, online here.

This is an animal-free show – This year boasts a brand new line up, jam packed with explosive, live entertainment from all over the world. The line up of entertainment will include:

A thrilling lineup of international talent, featuring the gravity-defying Trapeze, the adrenaline-pumping Double Wheel of Destiny, and the fearless Fernandez daredevils inside the Motorcycle Globe of Death. Marvel at the high-flying Rola Bola act, the jaw-dropping 20-foot Mongolian Acrobat Teeter Board, and the playful antics of Skipping Rope stunts. With dazzling aerialists, captivating jugglers, hilarious comedy, wild trampoline tricks, and much more including a spectacular finale!

  • Children 3 & under are FREE as long as they do not occupy a seat
  • Strollers are not allowed inside the main tent, but can be left in the concession area

Summer is nearly here, and it’s the perfect time to start planning some splash-worthy family adventures! Luckily, you don’t have to go far: these awesome outdoor water parks are all within a 90-minute drive from Edmonton, making them easy day trips for cooling off and having fun.

Blackfalds Abbey Centre | Just $20 for the whole family, this outdoor waterpark near Red Deer has something for all ages—from water slides for older kids to a splash park for little ones. Open now and perfect for a day trip! Pictured above. 

Discovery Canyon | Open for summer starting June 1, this river-fed water pool with a shallow tubing area and beach is a local favorite near Edmonton. It’s FREE with your own tube or $7/person to rent. On site: a playground, concession, and washrooms.

Sylvan Lake Wibit Obstacle Course | The Wibit at Sylvan is a must-try summer activity for kids 6+. Choose from 1-hour ($18), half-day ($29), or full-day ($40) passes. Check their website for details. Opens for Summer, 2025 on June 14.

Whitecourt River Slides, Festival Park | FREE with your own tube or rent on-site (first come, first served), this man-made river course offers two slides with different speeds. Plus, there’s a playground, splash park, and small concession. Pack food and enjoy a full day! Opening day TBA – see their website for updates as they come available.
