Summer break has officially begun, and the Green Shack Program returned to communities across Edmonton on June 29, 2026.
The Green Shack Program, offered by the City of Edmonton, is a FREE drop-in summer program where children can enjoy outdoor play, creative activities, and active games in local parks throughout the summer.
👧 Who can attend?
- Recommended for children ages 6–12
- Children under 6 are welcome with a parent or guardian.
- Families are welcome to participate together.
📅 When is it?
June 29 – August 21, 2026
Most locations operate:
🌞 Morning: 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
🌤️ Afternoon: 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Some parks also offer full-day programming (10:00 AM – 5:00 PM), depending on staffing and partner programming.
🎨 What do kids do?
Activities vary by location and day, and may include:
- 🎨 Arts and crafts
- ⚽ Sports and active games
- 🏃 Relay races and physical challenges
- 🎭 Drama, storytelling, and music
- 🤝 Team-building activities
- 🎉 Themed event days
Weekly schedules are typically posted at each Green Shack location.

⚠️ Important Information
The Green Shack Program is not a daycare or childcare service. Children are free to come and go, and parents or guardians are responsible for deciding whether their child can attend independently.

- Edmonton Sport & Recreation (through the Summer Legends program)
